Dorm Cooking

Tired of eating in the dinning halls? Or just craving something that doesn't come frozen and prepackaged. Don't worry, all you need is a microwave or coffee maker (even a electric kettle will do). As some of you know Texas Tech dorms do not allow toaster ovens, so getting creative with the appliances mentioned before will come in handy.

Breakfast On the Go!

If you have a morning lecture is better to have something in your stomach. Trying to concentrate on an empty stomach is not the easiest thing to accomplish. Here are a couple of quick microwave hacks for breakfast.

3 Minute Omelette

What you'll need:

  • A microwave

  • Coffee Mug (make sure it is safe to microwave)

  • 2 eggs

  • Any protein, veggie or cheese (get creative)

  • Fork

  • Salt/Pepper or preferred spices

Directions:

  1. In clean mug crack 2 eggs and give a quick eggs a quick whip with the fork(until egg yokes are fully mixed with the egg whites

  2. Add your toppings and stir them in so they are distributed throughout the egg then salt and pepper to taste(give one last stir so spices do not sit on top)

  3. Microwave for 2-3 minutes

  4. Allow to cool for a minute and enjoy!

To save even more time here are some easy to prep breakfast sandwiches. You can make these any day of the week and have them ready to go before class. * Pro-tip: Did you know Einsteins Bagels in Talkington & Rawls sells their bagels at the end of the day? They offer a baker's dozen of what didn't sell that day, so if English muffins aren't your style check out the bagels.
