Career Planning

High school is a great time to start thinking about careers, but many high schoolers have no idea what they want to do professionally. Exploring and researching your options can save you an immense amount of time and money. Unfortunately, many students rely on parents and advisors to do that for them.

Creating a website the aids students when considering their future plans more seriously, is a great way to ensure that future generations have an understanding of the career path they have chosen. As students enter into college, many of them will have an undetermined major, allowing themselves to figure it out at the same time they are completing college courses. This leads to many students changing their majors multiple times, dropping out of courses, or simply quitting school altogether. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 80 percent of US students change their major at least once. On average, college students change their major at three times during the course of their college career.

Career planning isn't something you do once and forget, but it does have to be adaptable. Research shows that the average worker will change careers – not jobs but careers – 5 to 7 times in their lifetime. This statistics proves that career planning is an activity you should do at least once a year. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Update resume

  • Identify transferrable skills

  • Research career advancement opportunities

  • Set short and long term career goals

  • Explore job salaries
